Vostro Docking Stations

Vostro docking stations have received pretty controversial comments and reviews. Dell produces the Vostro lines for several market sectors, and the designer seems to have neglected the need for a dock port with these laptop’s features. The Vostro as such is usually rated as a very good computer, providing balance and portability for small business purposes. The technology options are very numerous, the durability of the item is high and the wireless connectivity makes it very reliable . Yet, it is hard to explain the omission of a docking station port for this very innovative item.

Many businesses therefore prefer Dell Latitude and Lenovo ThinkPad. The success rate has thus been lower for the Vostro laptop line in the absence of viable Vostro docking stations. There is no justification for the omission particularly since businesses often depend on the mobility provided by the use of a docking station. With a plugged in docking station you should have immediate access to modem, scanner, mouse, printer, secondary monitor and larger keyboard.

The absence of vostro docking stations has been explained by the high number of ports available with Dell Vostro. Normally in addition to the four USB ports you also get a media card reader, a headphone jack, a microphone jack, a FireWire and an ExpressCard slot. Other than that, there always remains the unpleasant task for connecting or disconnecting the multiple devices you use at the office desk. In response to the negative feedback, Dell manufacturers made changes in 2008, but further improvement is expected.

The weight and size of the first Vostro laptops triggered criticism and a readjustment phase, but we can also expect the introduction of the Vostro docking stations in the near future. The market pressure gets higher as all Dell competitors have incorporated such features into their products. Moreover, the need for superior mobility and the chance to make the work environment more practical or pleasant to use are seriously considered under the circumstances. Let’s hope that there will soon be a concrete response in the form of a new Vostro series meant to adapt to the docking needs of the office user.
