The functional and efficient HP LaserJet 4050 printer does all it can to live up to its sterling reputation in the marketplace. It is able to work quite well in almost any type of environment and it’s obvious that HP designed to printer to integrate into the work group with little trouble. This monochrome laser printer also goes for a very nice price, and delivers excellent print speed and reliability.

This particular printer is part of the 4000 series within Hewlett-Packard’s lineup and it’s been designed to be upgradable, with memory and other capabilities able to be improved upon with the addition of certain optional equipment. It also comes to its user with decent print speeds at over 17 pages per minute, which should be more than enough speed for typical usage.

The HP 4050 can be connected to a workgroup or a single computer through traditional wired technologies, though there are wireless options available in the lineup at additional cost. It doesn’t feature a USB port but it does have a parallel port and a serial interface capability. Additionally, certain open slots can add wireless or ethernet capability.

The quality of the print job that emerges from the 4050 printer will be excellent, because this particular unit is equipped with 1200 dots per inch print resolution capability. This means that the print job that emerges will be detailed, rich, and will stand out from the page nicely. This gives the 4050 a step up over some of its similarly priced competition.

Memory is adequate enough at 8 MB of RAM, though that can be increased with little trouble up to 200 MB of RAM. Hewlett-Packard has determined that most workgroup users or even personal users are fine with 8 MB, but a serious workgroup may want to look at the memory and improve it. Just have the local IT folks bring it in and gas it up in order to improve its memory capabilities.

The HP 4050 is no piker when it comes to how many sheets of paper it can hold. It has a single auto load input tray that can hold 500 sheets and an additional 100 sheets can be inserted via a manual slot. It’s also quite versatile in the kinds and sizes of media stock that it can print on. This includes custom sizing, transparencies and envelopes as well as standard plain paper.

The monthly duty cycle rating for the 4050 is an excellent 65,000 pages. This means that the printer will need no maintenance until it has met or exceeded 65,000 pages of printed product in a month or over a predetermined timeframe. Since it has such a nice duty cycle at such a low price, it stands out from its peers. Additionally, it runs off of several different Windows platforms.

Presently, a number of online retail sites are asking about $120 or so for the HP LaserJet 4050 printer. Price will depend on whether one is going to go for a new printer or one that’s been refurbished. It features excellent print speed, good reliability and is able to be hooked up to a network quite easily. Given all that, it’s hard to see much to dislike about the 4050. Most purchasers never find anything to dislike about it.
