To mark its 50th anniversary, 103.7 WMGM-FM will re launch August. Twenty-nine as WMGM Rocks : South Jersey’s Home For The Best Rock.

The re-launch was declared Wed. by officers with Longport Media LLC who took control of the “heritage rock station” previously known as The Shark and 4 other South Jersey radio stations May 13.

“The Shark has been harpooned,” announced Dave Coskey, president of Longport Media. “WMGM has defined rock for this region for over twenty years, and our heritage call letters are something we are extraordinarily proud of. The development of 103.7 will allow us to further position WMGM as the premier station for rock ‘n’ roll in South Jersey and all our coverage areas.”

According to company officials, the re launch includes more than a new name.

The station will start playing a redeveloped playlist which will include classic-rock favourites like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones. However , the station’s musical preferences have expanded to include current rock artists such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Dave Matthews Band, the Foo Wrestlers and others.

Coskey said the re-branding has begun with the integration of newer artists during the day.

“We just felt there had been a piece missing in South Jersey … A station playing new rock and old rock,” Coskey announced.

Ops Director Paul Kelly said there’s only one standards when it comes to what music will blast through the airwaves : “If it rocks, we are going to play it.”

With new music, list of radio stations will begin local, in-house programming with more live DJs, bucking a local and countrywide trend of reducing on-air personalities to save money.

The new lineup :

“The Morning Edge” with JoJo and Scotty will air weekdays from six to 10 a.m.

Sean Patrick will be live from 10 a.m. To three p.m.

Matt Murray will host from three to 7 p.m.

Nikki Marra will round out the evening from 7 p.m. To midnight.

The morning show marks a return for the team of Scott Reilly and Joe Borsello, who formerly hosted a morning show on WWAC 102.7-FM, which is also owned by Longport Media. Their morning show was canceled when the station modified formats from modern rock to Top forty under prior possession.

Longport Media also owns news-talk station WOND-AM 1400, Spanish station WBSS-AM 1490 and classic hits station WTKU-FM 98.3.

Coskey announced Longport Media officers felt the change to WMGM was obligatory, but accepted there had been a risk in altering a station which has existed almost thirty years.

“Obviously there’s a gamble whenever you make a change,” he claimed. “We think that could be a change that is way overdue in the market, and we are very optimistic.” as reported tagza.com.
