The Operation Level Of The Dell Laser 1600n Laser Toner
The Dell Laser 1600n printer is a device that can scan, print, copy, and fax. It is specially built for a small office and costs around $600, which is pretty affordable considering you are getting four devices at the same time. It is compact enough to fit in a small office, yet offers so many features, not the least of which is the exceptional prints offered by the Dell Laser 1600n toner cartridges.
The machine can print 22 pages per minute. It also features a 50-sheet automatic document feeder you can use for the faxing or scanning. Networking using a standard Ethernet cable that is also present with this nifty device.
When you connect the Dell 1600 printer to the network, the color-scanning feature will become unavailable, which is a bit strange. Printing and scanning quality are the two things that make this machine very attractive. The quality it provides is the best we have seen in a multifunctional laser printer under the same price range. Another weird limitation is the PC faxing. The software bundled does not let you do PC faxing, which means you have to use Microsoft’s faxing software. Unfortunately, this software cannot read the address book saved in the machine’s control panel.
The Dell 1600n printer was able to get one of the fastest scanning and copying results. Grayscale document scanning averaged three pages per minute, while six pages per minute for the color documents. As for its copying, it was able to do six documents per minute.
The bundled paper tray can store 250 sheets. However, you can buy another tray of the same type and put it on top of the other one. This would make it a total of 500 sheets, which is more than enough for a small office. A 32 MB built-in memory is included, but if you want to use this device at the level of a workgroup, you need to upgrade the memory. Additional memory can cost $30 or higher.
The package includes a 3,000-page yield Dell 1600n toners. A brand new one costs around $70, which makes an average print cost around 2.3 cents per page. However, if you want to save more, there is also a 5,000-page yield toner cartridge for $80. This would make for an average of 1.6 cents per page, which is good compared to other printers under the same price range.
The automatic document feeder is something that needs be improved. The power cord is too short for the lid to stay completely open. This would make scanning or copying large documents strenuous to do. You would need to improvise something if you want to keep the lid open. Expanding the memory is a very easy task to do with this Dell printer. Just open the small door on the left side, insert the memory to any of the DIMMs, and you are good to go. It can be upgraded by anyone.
An embedded web server lets you monitor the printer’s status. This is a feature readily available when you connect this model of Dell printer to a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet network. Unfortunately, the software only supports Windows 95 or higher. If you have a computer running on the Mac or Linux operating system, you are out of luck as the device is designed for Windows operating systems only. In addition, the USB cable is not bundled with the printer. You would need to spend an extra 30$ for the cable. Plugging it to a PC through USB and installing its software and drivers is very easy. Even a child can install the utility software.
What makes the Dell Laser 1600n printer a good buy is the lifetime around-the-clock technical support. It also includes a standard one-year warranty, which you can extend by signing up online or calling technical support. Shipping and replacement is also covered in the warranty.
The Dell 1600n replacement toner offers the professionalism those familiar with Dell toner have come to expect. Online toner retailers can offer surprising prices when it comes time for replacement.
