Nintendo certainly know the way to please their followers. Long ago on the old Gameboy Colour, the games Pokemon Gold and Silver ruled the roost. Indeed, the games are so fashionable that they’re still enjoyed today as cult offerings. However, Nintendo are trying to build on the polularity of these games by creating remakes on their existing DS family. Step forward Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver.

The first nice attribute offered in Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver is that gamers can sync their new game to any old Diamond, Pearl or Platinum games they have already got on the DS. This suggests gamers will retain all the obscure and special Pokemon they battled so hard to find on previous games. And you’ll definitely want all of them, as this game offers up almost twice as many gym arenas as in the previous installments, expanding the game significantly.

This game is excellent fan service to all the steadfast Pokemon collectors out there, and retains a number of the most popular elements from previous titles. Retro music is included in Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver bringing back nostalgic tracks from the earliest Pokemon games, along with vast locations you will recognise but that provide new challenges.

However, Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver is not all about bringing back old features. The graphics and music have clearly been vastly improved since the Gameboy color days, and Pokemon has never looked this impressive. Running on the same format as Platinum, the game is pushed even more with some wonderful fully animated battle displays.

If you are even remotely a Pokemon enthusiast, this game is good for you. It brings along all the most successful and well-loved features of past installments and adds a bit of magic in the form of improved graphics and extra options to form an excellent experience. Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver is a definite cert for followers of the franchise, and is certain to get a brand new generation interested too!
