HP LaserJet 6L Printer – Extremely Economical For Home Use
The attractive, low-priced HP LaserJet 6L printer looks to have been created by Hewlett-Packard to be a bargain-priced laser printer, yet also still full of the kinds of features appreciated by many fans of these types of printers. It combines decent print speed and durability that complements Hewlett-Packard’s reputation for reliability and fairly predictable quality of printing.
Hewlett-Packard — which has lately discontinued this model — included certain capabilities in the 6-series to which this particular laser printer belongs. It is truly a personal printer and not intended for use within a network workgroup, but that’s only because it probably can’t keep up with the page-per-minute requirements of most such workgroups.
That rate comes in at a predictable, but generally slow six pages per minute, which is — for a laser printer — okay, and certainly more than what a standard inkjet printer is capable of doing. At any rate, with 600 dots per inch resolution on every page that emerges from the printer will look more than acceptable as far as quality of print goes.
When it comes to connecting the HP 6L to a computer, Hewlett-Packard offers standard capability through a hard-wire parallel port function. It doesn’t feature USB, but at about $70 in price for the printer (if one can be found) that hardly seems to be a concern for most people on the lookout for a real bargain when it comes to laser printing.
There’s only one megabyte of memory available and the LaserJet 6L can’t be upgraded much past 9 MB in total. Of course, this Hewlett-Packard will share processing power with the computer to which it’s connected, so that is also nothing to become overly concerned with. Everything will be controlled by a standard 24 MHz processor, which also helps to explain somewhat why it prints out at six pages in a minute.
When it comes to storage capacity, the printer does well enough at holding about 100 sheets of paper, all of it going into a single tray. When it comes to what kinds of paper stock this machine can print on, it’s a fairly diverse collection that includes transparencies, labels, envelopes and plain paper. It also features the ability to print on a relatively large number of paper sizes as well.
The printer has a maximum monthly duty cycle of 6,000 pages, which is — for a printer that costs as little as this one does — quite notable. It will come with a printer cartridge good for 2,500 impressions or sheets of paper. For someone using the HP 6L as a personal printer, that’s quite a lot of volume which also means that the cost per printed page will be commensurately low as well.
When looked at as a whole, it’s easy to see why the HP LaserJet 6L printer is still sought after. It makes use of Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft DOS and IBM OS/2 operating systems. As well, it comes with good durability and a long-lasting printer cartridge. Indeed, it’s fairly difficult to find much to pick over when it comes to finding fault with this particular printer, especially when one considers that only costs about $70 for a new unit, when one can be found.
When you find one, or if you still own one, replacing the LaserJet 6L replacement toners might be a concern. With the standard of quality of Hewlett-Packard, however, many e-retailers stock HP LaserJet replacement toners along with many other brands of cartridge and toner, available at a great price at your convenience.
