The phrase flood restoration is most commonly associated with the task of removing excess water from flooded buildings. However, the phrase can also relate to the process of drying out a mobile phone after it has been subjected to excess water. Mobile phones can be flooded in much the same way as a property is flooded and the flood restoration process aims to get the phone back to full working order. Remove the battery
Your first step should always be to remove the battery from the phone. Trying to turn the phone on can be a mistake as the presence of a charge could cause damage to the circuit board if it is wet. Replacing the circuit board is the most expensive part of the phone and will cost you almost as much as buying a new phone.
Let the components air dry
You should now give the phone components some time to naturally air-dry. This can be done by removing items such as the SIM cards, memory cards, case and fascias. If you have an airing cupboard or a boiler room then it can be a good idea to place the phone in there as the extra heat will speed up the drying process. Another option is to position the phone near to a radiator, but not too close as it could cause overheating.
Air spray
The flood restoration process is made difficult by the fact that; unless we start removing screws and taking the phone apart, we can’t get to all of the water. You can work around this problem by using a can of pressurised air to spray in-between any cracks or gaps to force the water out. Using a hairdryer on a cool temperature setting is also an option and will serve to create an airflow through the phone.

If you still can’t get the phone to work then it could be a good time to try a bag of rice. Open up a bag of rice and place your phone in the centre of it, before sealing back up and leaving for a couple of days. This trick often works due to the fact that the rice draws water out of the phone and soaks it up.
Patience is a virtue
You must always try to remain patient when undertaking flood restoration on your phone. More often than not the phone will eventually work; it is just a matter of when. Therfore it is wise to borrow a phone from a friend or family member, or perhaps buy a budget model to put you on.
