The Sony PSP and PSP Go are ready to receive a welcome game this Spring with the releasing of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The fabled gaming franchise returns to the portable system in this long awaited game. Remember we have experienced Metal Gear for the PSP before, in the form of Portable Ops one or two years ago, but this will be the first instalment that will be directed by the mastermind behind the famous franchise; Hideo Kojima, and this can only be a nice sign.

The game takes place after the occurrences in MGS3, with players returning to control the original Snake, who has become ‘Big Boss’. Unlike with Portable Ops, the title is considered as official canon within the Metal Gear Solid franchise universe. The gameplay follows the basis set out by prior titles, with a large focus around stealth and espionage. The over-the-shoulder angle of Metal Gear four debuts in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, creating a mix of the best elements of prior titles.

Peace Walker’s gameplay centres on a co-op core, by following plenty of today’s games by placing emphasis on teamwork. This is implemented thr oughout Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in both single player campaigns and multiplayer games, with a variety of different ‘Snakes’ to choose between. These variations range all the way from a stealth bias to heavy weapons expert, allow ing players to co-ordinate awell balanced team.

This game is the first of two titles to be released into the Metal Gear franchise during this year, with the Raiden-centric Metal Gear Solid Rising to appear on next gen platforms later on. Kojima productions have made a fantastic little title in the form of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, collating all classic elements of earlier titles into an innovative new game. The game’s audio and graphics are polished to a superlative calibre and the story seems, as usual, completely epic.
